Ofloxacin, Ornidazole & Combination Cream

The product contains antibiotic, antiprotozoal and antifungal used to treat skin infections. Ofloxacin is a broad-spectrum antibiotic that is active against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Ornidazole is an antibiotic used to treat protozoan infections. Itraconazole is one of the triazole antifungal agents that inhibit cytochrome P-450-dependent enzymes resulting in impairment of ergosterol synthesis, a major component of fungal cell wall. Clobetasol Propionate is a highly active corticosteroid. Salicylic acid is a keratolytic (peeling agent).

Mechanism of action:

Ofloxacin is an antibiotic of fluoroquinolone family of medications useful for the treatment of a number of bacterial infections. Ofloxacin is a broad-spectrum antibiotic that is active against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. . It works by interfering with the bacterium's DNA, halting DNA replication. DNA replication requires DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV. DNA gyrase allows the untwisting required to replicate one DNA double helix into two. Topoisomerase IV provides stability to the unwind DNA during replication. Ofloxacin inhibits these two and inhibit DNA replication thereby inhibits normal cell division.
Ornidazole is a nitro imidazole which has broad spectrum microcidal activity against Protozoa and some anaerobic bacteria. Its selective toxicity to anaerobic microbes involves 1. Drug enters the cell by diffusion, 2. Nitro group of drug is reduced by redox proteins present only in anaerobic organisms to reactive nitro radical which exerts cytotoxic action by damaging DNA and other critical biomolecules. 3. DNA helix destabilization &strand breakage has been observed.
Itraconazole is a selectively inhibits enzyme 14-α-demethylase and this enzyme is responsible to convert lanosterol to ergosterol, which is necessary for fungal cell wall synthesis. The free nitrogen atom located on the azole ring of fluconazole binds with a single iron atom located in the heme group of lanosterol 14-α-demethylase. This prevents oxygen activation and, as a result, inhibits the demethylation of lanosterol, halting the process of ergosterol biosynthesis. These accumulated sterols negatively affect the structure and function of the fungal cell plasma membrane.
Clobetasol propionate is a type of medicine called a topical corticosteroid. It works by stopping skin cells releasing various inflammatory substances that make blood vessels widen and cause the skin to become red, swollen, itchy and painful. It reduces the swelling, redness and itching and so helps prevent scratching that can further irritate the skin.

The product is possible safe for most adults. There is no disadvantage associated with the product if taken under the recommended usage however headache, rashes, acne, irritation and numbness due to nerve damage can occur in some patients.
